Dominic Avant received a Bachelors of Fine Arts at Rhode Island School of Design in 1991.

After leaving school, Dominic worked as a freelance illustrator and teacher. In 1996 he was recruited by Walt Disney Feature Animation; and it was this creative community that Dominic pays credit to for jump starting his career as a painter. Since 2003 and the closing of the Orlando studio Dominic has been actively painting and teaching workshops.

Dominic believes Plein air painting is an essential part of being a representational artist. Nature holds the truth; it will reveal to us what a photo won’t. To be in the open air chasing the light, trying to capture a glimpse of time – a moment in space and temperature and mood of a place – creates a direct connection between the artist and nature.
